The incumbent schools superintendent finished last in Tuesday's primary despite raising more than any other candidate in the race. Your local supervisor is on track to win his seat before November arrives. And Camarillo's congressional district has a new contest for the first time since 2013. Full results below, starting with the races closest to home

CONGRESSIONAL RACES

26th District: Open Seat

Democrate candidate Jacqui Irwin

Republican candidate Sam Gallucci

Julia Brownley held this seat since 2013 and retired at the end of her current term. The 26th covers all of Camarillo.

Jacqui Irwin led a nine-candidate field with 40.1% districtwide, running slightly stronger in Ventura County at 42.7%. Sam Gallucci finished second at 22% and advances to November. The two face each other in the general.

VENTURA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

2nd District

Ventura County Board of Supervisors 2nd District Incumbent Jeff Gorell

Incumbent Jeff Gorell leads the 2nd District supervisor race with 54.6% of election-night ballots, well ahead of Ashley Orozco at 37.9% and Mark Perryman at 7.4%. The 2nd District covers parts of Camarillo along with much of Thousand Oaks.

In California nonpartisan races, a candidate who clears 50% wins the seat outright with no November runoff. If Gorell's majority holds through the final count, the race is over.

4th District

Ventura County Board of Supervisors 4th District Incumbent Janice Parvin

Incumbent Janice Parvin leads the 4th District with 72% of ballots counted, well ahead of Ruth Luevanos at 28%. The 4th District covers Simi Valley and Moorpark. At that margin, Parvin is on track for an outright win.

OTHER COUNTY OFFICES

County Superintendent of Schools

Candidate Karen Sher

Candidate Maggie Marschner

No candidate reached 50%, so this one goes to November. Karen Sher leads at 39.5%, ahead of Maggie Marschner at 33.6%.

Incumbent Cesar Morales finished third at 27%, a surprising outcome for a sitting superintendent who led all candidates in fundraising. Morales came under public scrutiny in May over compensation practices at the county schools office, and the Board of Education voted unanimously to launch a forensic audit. Sher and Marschner advance to the general.

County Clerk and Recorder

Incumbent Michelle Ascencion leads with 71% over Paul Harold Johnson at 29%, and is on track for an outright win.

Treasurer-Tax Collector

Marilou Tan leads with 71.5% over Derek Fouarge at 28.5%.

Superior Court, Office No. 15

Amy E. Van Sickle leads with 72.5% over Mike Malak at 27.5%.

Assessor and Auditor-Controller

Keith Taylor (Assessor) and Michelle K. Yamaguchi (Auditor-Controller) both ran unopposed.

38th District

Incumbent Steve Bennett

Incumbent Steve Bennett leads the 38th with 69.3% over Michael MacDonald at 30.7%. The 38th covers the western half of Camarillo. No Republican filed in this race, so November will be a Democratic vs. Democratic general.

42nd District

Democratic Candidate Deborah Klein Lopez

Republican Candidate Ted Nordblum

The 42nd is an open seat. Jacqui Irwin held it and is now running for Congress in the 26th. Deborah Klein Lopez leads with 49.7% districtwide, ahead of Ted Nordblum at 27.4% and Rocky Rhodes at 22.9%.

Both Nordblum and Rhodes are Republicans; Nordblum's second-place finish sets up a standard Democratic vs. Republican general in November. The 42nd covers the eastern half of Camarillo.

HOW VENTURA COUNTY VOTED VS. THE STATE

California's top-two primary sends the two highest vote-getters to November, regardless of party. Here's how the major statewide races compared.

Ventura County ran a few points more Republican than the state overall, and that pattern held across nearly every office on the ballot. In every single statewide race, the same two candidates advanced here as advanced statewide.

One race worth watching: Insurance Commissioner

Two Democrats advance to November. Jane Kim finished first statewide at 23.7%, with Ben Allen second at 19.2%. Republican votes split across five candidates; Stacy Korsgaden led them at 17.5%, not quite enough to break through.

It was particularly close in Ventura County. Korsgaden finished at 18.8% here, just 0.4 points behind Allen's 19.2%.

Whoever wins in November, California will have a Democratic Insurance Commissioner for the next four years.

WHAT'S STILL BEING COUNTED

About 138,900 Ventura County ballots were counted election night out of 525,292 registered voters, putting turnout at roughly 26%. That number will climb. The last comparable June primary, 2022, finished at 40% once all mail ballots were in.

California allows mail ballots postmarked by June 2 to arrive at county elections offices through June 9, so the count continues after election night. Statewide margins are large enough that the top-two outcomes above aren't expected to change. Ventura County releases its next update Thursday at 3 p.m.
