Hi neighbor,

If you’re still figuring out your weekend, I’ve got you.

A few local plans, a couple things Camarillo residents should know about, and one story that might change how you think about those rattlesnake sightings lately.

Let’s get into it.

☀️ Weekend Weather

Local forecast via Grant @CamWX

🌧️ Rain Is Back This Weekend

High pressure is shifting east, opening the door for two late-season systems to move through. Friday now carries only a slight chance of light rain, and Saturday looks largely dry as we sit between systems.

Attention then turns to a stronger, more dynamic storm arriving late Saturday night into Sunday. This system brings a much higher chance of rain, possible thunderstorms, and gusty winds, with most areas picking up around 0.5 to 0.75 inches and locally higher amounts possible.

Conditions turn sharply cooler Sunday before clearing out and warming back into the 70s early next week.

If you’re still figuring out your weekend, here’s a farm day, live blues, and a Sunday show.

🌱 Ventura County Farm Day (Camarillo Stop)

Saturday · 10 am · McGrath Farm Center

If you’ve ever wanted to see where your food actually comes from, this is your chance. Walk the farm, meet the people growing it, and get a behind-the-scenes look at how it all works right here in Camarillo. There are stops across the county, but this is one of the easiest to check out locally.

🎸 Fred Kaplan Quartet (Live Blues)

Saturday · 8 pm · American Pie Records

Fred Kaplan has been playing blues piano for decades and has shared stages with some of the greats. Saturday night he's bringing his quartet to a record shop in Camarillo. A perfect date night or low-key plan with friends who actually like good music.

🎻 Bernstein, Brahms & Blues

Sunday · 3 pm · Rancho Campana High School

Violinist Tai Murray made her debut with the Chicago Symphony at age nine. Sunday she's playing the West Side Story suite with the New West Symphony, alongside Brahms' First Symphony and a nod to the blues that ties it all together. It's a big program, well performed, right here in Camarillo.

Around Camarillo

Rattlesnakes are popping up more right now, but not for the reason most people think.

Six Rattlesnake Bites in Ventura County in Less Than a Month. What's Going On?

A man was bitten near CSU Channel Islands on Easter Sunday. It was the sixth rattlesnake bite in Ventura County in less than a month.

The snakes are out early and there's a documented reason why, but there's also a 50-year-old myth about rattlesnakes that researchers just proved wrong, and most people in Southern California still believe it.

Did you see that in the sky Monday night? 🚀

If you looked up around 7:50 p.m. on Monday and saw a glowing streak arc across the sky, you weren't imagining things. SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base carrying 25 Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit. The dramatic trail visible from Ventura County was the rocket's exhaust plume catching the last light of the evening sky. Some residents also reported hearing sonic booms.

Two more launches are already on the calendar from Vandenberg: April 10 and April 14. Worth stepping outside.

Camarillo’s 70-year-old water plant is one step closer to a major overhaul.

The Camarillo Sanitary District unanimously approved a nearly $4 million contract with Jacobs Project Management at the April 8 City Council meeting to figure out what to do with the city's Water Reclamation Plant, originally built in 1957. The facility processes 3.5 million gallons of wastewater every day, but many of its components are nearing the end of their useful lives. Two options are on the table: upgrade what exists, or build something new. Both are expensive

The next 20 months will be spent studying everything from flood risk and energy use to whether treated wastewater could eventually be reused locally, potentially reducing what residents pay for imported water. Ratepayers will fund whatever the city ultimately decides to build.

A recommendation to the Board is expected around late 2027.

🍪 Local Spotlight: Sweets & Treats by Tami

The kind of setup that turns “just one cookie” into a full box.

Somewhere between “I’ll just grab one” and “wait, I need a box,” Tami’s cookies tend to win.

Her menu rotates constantly, mixing familiar favorites like Chocolate Chunk with flavors you don’t usually see done this well, like Banana Pudding or Fluffernutter. It’s the kind of setup that makes deciding the hardest part.

Everything is made from scratch in small batches, and new ideas are always in the pipeline, often coming straight from customer suggestions.

You’ll spot her at local pop-ups around Camarillo and Ventura County, or you can order ahead for pickup, delivery, or shipping.

Pet of the Week

Meet Twix

Twix is a 5-year-old German Shepherd mix with striking eyes and endless energy. She loves chasing tennis balls, knows “sit,” and is just as happy hanging out with her people after playtime. She’d likely do well with another dog (bring them for a meet and greet!) and is looking for a home without small animals.

“I am playful and affectionate. Let’s meet!”

Twix

Ventura County Animal Services is currently offering $0 adoption fees for all shelter pets, with a special need for adopters for large dogs.

Pets leave the shelter:

  • Spayed/neutered

  • Vaccinated

  • Microchipped

  • Flea treated

A $25 licensing fee applies for county residents.
