Hi neighbor,

It’s been a big week in Camarillo. The City Council finally voted on the mobile home rent stabilization ordinance, the city took its water fight to the California Supreme Court, and kidSTREAM finally has an opening date on the calendar.

Also in this issue: meet a local baker bringing the flavors of Beirut to Camarillo, plus a weekend packed with car shows, blues, and Earth Day events.

Let’s get into it.

☀️ Weekend Weather

Local forecast via Grant @CamWX

🌦️ Cooler this weekend with a chance of light rain

A cooling trend begins tomorrow as the ridge shifts east and onshore flow returns ahead of a weak system expected to move through the state on Saturday. Model guidance remains inconsistent, but recent runs have reintroduced a slight chance of light rain—though if it materializes, amounts would likely stay under a tenth of an inch.

Regardless, Saturday will be noticeably cooler, with highs in Camarillo dropping into the mid 60s. Temperatures begin to rebound Sunday into next week, and while a system once projected for Tuesday has weakened and dropped out of the forecast, confidence remains low until models come into better agreement.

Around Camarillo

Supporters filled chambers for Wednesday’s rent stabilization vote.

Mobile Home Rent Stabilization Just Passed. Unanimously.

One month ago, the Council sent it back to committee and nearly 500 residents left City Hall empty-handed. Wednesday night, they got a different answer. 5-0, unanimous, with applause the mayor had to quiet down.

I broke down what happened at yesterday’s city council meeting, what changed between meetings, what the ordinance actually does, and what happened to the park owners' seven specific requests.

The Camarillo Desalter plant at the heart of the dispute over water rights.

Your water bill is heading to the California Supreme Court

A $70 million plant that now provides much of Camarillo’s drinking water is at the center of a court fight with major consequences for local ratepayers. If Oxnard Plain farmers succeed, the city could be forced to cut back the plant, buy more imported water, and charge residents more to cover the difference. Camarillo’s latest move: asking the California Supreme Court to step in on April 21.

The city says Camarillo’s water is under threat. The farmers say the rules are unfair. Environmentalists are split.

Next week, we’ll break down all three sides, because this story is a lot messier than it first looks.

kidSTREAM Opens May 21

After years in the works, kidSTREAM finally opens May 21 at the old Camarillo Public Library site. The new children’s museum includes indoor and outdoor exhibits, a Channel Islands fossil dig, and an edible garden with Ventura County berries and herbs.

Private ceremony in the morning, doors open to the public that afternoon.

🍪 Local Spotlight: Bliss Street Baked Goods

Fresh out of the oven in a Camarillo home kitchen, one of Bliss Street’s signature pastries.

Bliss Street Baked Goods isn’t your typical bakery. Everything is made in a home kitchen right here in Camarillo, but the roots go back to Beirut, where recipes and techniques were passed down through generations. The name “Bliss Street” comes from a real street there, known for its food and energy, now carried into what’s being made locally.

Owner and baker Deya made the shift from nearly eight years in academic publishing to building something more personal and hands-on. Today, she runs every part of Bliss Street herself, baking, preparing orders, and connecting directly with customers for events and everyday treats.

What sets Bliss Street apart is the balance. These aren’t overly sweet desserts. They lean on flavor, with Lebanese influences showing up in things like walnut baklava, pistachio cookies with cardamom, and savory za’atar croissants made with a family spice blend. Fruit pies that let the fruit shine like her popular apple-blueberry.

You can find Bliss Street Baked Goods at the Camarillo Farmers Market on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays, or order directly for events like birthdays, showers, and weddings.

Pet of the Week

Meet Chipotle

Chipotle is a 5-year-old Pit Bull Terrier who loves ear scratches, plush toys, and being close to her people. She’s a staff favorite for a reason: sweet, friendly, and the kind of dog who happily welcomes new volunteers like she’s been assigned the job.

She’s been at the shelter for over 450 days and is more than ready to trade kennel life for a couch, a few walks, and someone to love on.

“I'm such a cuddlebug”

- Chipotle

Ventura County Animal Services is currently offering $0 adoption fees for all shelter pets, with a special need for adopters for large dogs.

Pets leave the shelter: Spayed/neutered, Vaccinated, Microchipped, Flea treated

A $25 licensing fee applies for county residents.
