Hi neighbor,
Sunny weekend weather is back, and this issue has a little bit of everything: a new reason to gather in Old Town, one last election reminder, and a very good senior dog looking for a soft landing.
Let’s get into it.
☀️ Weekend Weather

Local forecast via Grant @CamWX
🌦️ Clearing Just in Time
Don’t let these last few days of gloomy weather get you down—a gorgeous stretch of sunny springtime weather is on the way this weekend. The low pressure system responsible for the cool, cloudy conditions will finally move off to the northeast, taking the unsettled weather with it. A warming trend begins Friday, with temperatures returning to typical springtime levels this weekend before climbing above normal next week.
The warming trend is expected to peak around Tuesday before leveling off through the remainder of next week. Expect plenty of sunshine and highs generally ranging from the upper 70s to low 80s across much of the inland coastal area.

♟ Local Spotlight: A New Chess Club Wants Camarillo to Pull Up a Chair
A lot of people think chess is only for geniuses, tournament players, or people who already know what they’re doing. Anthony Allonardo wants Camarillo’s new chess club to prove the opposite.
His goal is to create a place where anyone can sit down, play a game, meet a neighbor, and stop worrying about whether they’re “good enough” to belong there.

🏠 Occupancy Rule Eases for Junior ADUs
Camarillo's rules for junior accessory dwelling units, the small in-law units built inside a single-family home, just got a little looser. On May 27, the City Council unanimously approved an ordinance bringing the city into compliance with state Assembly Bill 1154, which took effect January 1.
The main change: owners no longer have to live on-site to add a junior ADU, as long as the unit has its own bathroom. The new ordinance also bars short-term rentals. Any rental of a junior ADU must run longer than 30 days.
Junior ADUs are capped at 500 square feet, must sit within the walls of the main home, and don't require additional parking. Councilmember Kevin Kildee noted at the hearing that the no-extra-parking provision will likely mean more on-street parking in neighborhoods over time. The ordinance takes effect 30 days after passage.
🏡 Camarillo’s first-time buyer help is already spoken for
Camarillo’s down-payment assistance program has now authorized all 16 of its available $50,000 loans for first-time homebuyers. Thirteen have closed, with three more expected by the end of the fiscal year.
The program helped buyers including school district employees, hospital workers, young families, and single parents. Now the question is whether the city can keep it going: staff said they are looking for other funding sources to continue the program.
🐾 Pet of the Week
Meet Peddy
Pit Bull Terrier · Neutered male · 15 years old
Peddy is a sweet senior at the Camarillo Animal Shelter who still enjoys sniffy walks, naps, meeting new people, and even beach days. He was surrendered after his owner ran into anti-pet housing issues, and now he’s looking for a soft place to spend his golden years. He has some hearing loss, but he’s friendly, curious, and ready for someone who wants to give an old dog a cozy second chance.
Animal ID: A879431 · Kennel: 035
Ventura County Animal Services has adoptable pets at the Camarillo and Simi Valley shelters. Adoption fees vary by animal, including $120 for dogs for Ventura County residents, $85 for cats, $50 for rabbits, and $15 for turtles and tortoises.
